Silver Swan Recruitment was launched in 2013 by Philippa Smith. Having started her career working for a large recruitment agency in London she joined a luxury chalet operator as a HR Manager before seeing a gap in the market for a specialised recruitment agency for the ski industry. It was clear that staffing was a problem for chalets in not only sourcing candidates but keeping them throughout the course of the season. Unfortunately, the nature of working a ski season involves skiing regularly which can sometimes lead to injuries meaning staff need to be replaced, this can be stressful especially if its Christmas Eve! Silver Swan was therefore launched to provide support to the ski industry before and during the ski season.
Over the last 4 years Silver Swan has grown to be a dominant recruitment agency for luxury properties worldwide. We source experienced hospitality professionals for not only luxury chalets, but villas, yachts and private households. We are therefore a one stop shop for clients who have multiple properties around the world which need staff. We have a team of dedicated consultants specialised in each area of the business who each have access to our large database of experienced hospitality professionals.
The journey has certainly not been without its challenges. We are constantly working against strong competition so we need to always make sure we are going above and beyond at all times. We make sure that we are readily available to our clients which often means working evenings and weekends. We make sure that our service is personable at all times – the relationships we have with our clients and candidates alike are of great importance to us and I would like to think that we have made many friends along the way. When things do go right though, we feel a huge sense of achievement and seeing the business grow year on year and expanding our team year on year makes all the hard work worthwhile.
I would always recommend that if you are thinking of starting your own business then providing you have something of value to sell – whether this be a product of a service, and you have an affordable way of delivering this product or service and you know who you plan to sell it to and how you plan to sell it then be brave and give it a go! If you don’t fill a gap in the market then there will be someone else out there who will.
