The Starting Out group leads the council’s work on inspiring young women to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) as a career choice, and in supporting businesses of all sizes to make positive changes to ensure breadth and diversity in their workplace talent.
To raise the aspirations of women and girls to consider traditionally under-represented jobs in STEM, all businesses have an opportunity to ensure women are well represented and show the next generation of female STEM talent that there is an open door to success.
The group launched two toolkits in 2018 which offer practical tools, template documents and evaluation metrics for large and small STEM business owners to make a positive difference for the recruitment, progression and retention of their female talent. These toolkits have been tested by large companies and offer best practice to the entire sector.
